Student life is dynamic, student-driven, and bursting with possibilities. Our Student Activities program constantly evolves based on the passions, ideas, and energy of the students themselves. We invite every member of our community to propose new events and help shape the calendar—so what you see here is always just the beginning.

Highlights That Make Every Week Memorable

First Fridays

Since its start in 2012, First Fridays have become a beloved Rectory tradition—a night each month when middle school students come together to celebrate community and fun outside of the classroom. Created at the suggestion of students who wanted more time to connect beyond academics and athletics, these evenings have evolved into can’t-miss events. Whether it’s a movie night, campus carnival, athletic showdown, or seasonal celebration, First Fridays bring our day and boarding students together to laugh, play, and unwind. Beginning in 2016, day students were even given dorm assignments so they could stay on campus to get ready with their boarding friends—because at Rectory, everyone belongs.

Humans vs. Zombies

Each fall, the campus comes alive after dark for one of Rectory’s most thrilling traditions: Humans vs. Zombies! Imagine a massive, glow-stick-filled game of tag with a twist—students armed with balled-up socks defend themselves from “zombies” as they race across campus under the stars. Energy runs high as laughter echoes through the fields, and every player ends the night celebrating with signature black and orange soda floats—the official “antidote” that turns everyone back into humans by bedtime!

Winter Ski Program

When the snow starts to fall, Rectory students head to the slopes for the Winter Ski and Snowboard Program at Wachusett Mountain in Princeton, Massachusetts. For six Sundays in January and February, students carve down the trails, learn new skills, and enjoy fresh mountain air with friends and faculty. It’s an invigorating way to stay active during the winter months and make the most of New England’s snowy season. Families receive details each November to register directly through Wachusett’s website—so grab your gear and get ready for an unforgettable winter adventure!

SnowBall Dinner Dances

February brings one of Rectory’s most elegant and anticipated traditions: the Snowball Dinner Dance. Seventh through ninth graders dress in their finest attire and step into the beautifully transformed dining hall—complete with tablecloths, candlelight, and live classical music—for a formal dinner served by faculty “waiters.” Once dessert is finished and the tables are cleared, the lights dim, the music turns up, and the dancing begins! It’s a magical night of friendship, celebration, and laughter. Meanwhile, our fifth and sixth graders enjoy their own festive evening in the Wolf Den, with a pizza party and games—a night that’s all their own.

Eric Kim ’19 Memorial 3-on-3 Basketball Tournament

Each spring, Rectory honors the memory of Eric Kim ’19, a cherished member of our community, with the Eric Kim Memorial 3-on-3 Basketball Tournament. Founded by his friends Aidan R. ’18 and Jihee L. ’18, this spirited event combines competition, camaraderie, and compassion—raising money for charity while keeping Eric’s joyful spirit alive on the court. Players, fans, and faculty come together in a powerful reminder of what makes Rectory special: friendship, resilience, and heart.
