Rectory Students Sing Through December
Donna Bessette, Related Arts Department Team Leader Director of Drama
The month of December is filled with wonderful opportunities for our music students to share their talents with the community and to add to the holiday festivities! On Sunday, Dec. 2nd, the members of RECapella sang a selection of four songs for the Hospice Tree of Life Ceremony which took place at Christ Church in Pomfret. After a touching ceremony outside around a Christmas Tree, the performers entertained all who were gathered and brought some cheer to a group that might need it around this time of year. (The cookies that Rectory students baked were enjoyed while the students sang!)
On Tuesday, Dec. 11th, Rectory will hold it's annual Holiday Chapel: a Service of Lessons and Carols. This service takes place at 10:00 am in the beautiful Clark Chapel at Pomfret School. It features readers from all grade levels telling the stories of Hanukkah and Christmas and sharing the message of peace among all people. The middle school chorus is featured throughout the service in a performance of songs from various styles and traditions.
On Wednesday, Dec. 12th the audience will be entertained by ALL of Rectory School's musical groups (Elementary Chorus, 5tn and 6th Grade Band,Jazz Band, RECapella, Orchestra, Chorus, Ninth Grade Ensemble, and Guitar Class). The concert is a chance for the 5th and 6th grade band to make their debut performance of the year as well as a chance to hear the latest pieces from our advanced ensembles.
The winter term will wrap up with the Elementary Chorus performing at Sealy Brown and distributing their Gingerbread Houses to the elderly residents of that community.
We hope you will enjoy some or all of these events, and we are happy to share the musical gifts of our talented students with the community.--
