Meet Our Head of School
My goal is that students leave Rectory with an inquisitive mind while constantly embracing the core values of the School Creed: Responsibility, Respect, Honesty, and Compassion.
Whether exploring our website or our campus, you quickly see that Rectory School is defined by a sense of community that pervades all aspects of school life. This theme is rooted in the School’s founding in 1920, when the Reverend and Mrs. Bigelow sought to provide an individualized education for their son, John, and their neighbors' children in a caring, home environment. Today, teaching and learning remain at the heart of Rectory’s mission; however, the Rectory experience goes far beyond the classroom. Our dedicated faculty and staff take responsibility for each student's emotional, social, and physical well-being, as well as his or her educational success. In such a secure setting, students are free to challenge themselves and take risks that will lead them to realize their full potential.
Although we maintain the traditional values upon which Rectory School originated, we are keenly aware of the kind of knowledge and experiences our students will need to succeed in the future. Talk to any of our faculty and you will find openness to adopting new teaching strategies--such as experiential learning, diverse ways of presenting information, and creative uses of technology that strengthen and enhance our programs. It is this combination of tradition and innovation that prepares our students for continued success in secondary school and beyond.
