Inclement Weather Protocol

Inclement Weather

Snow, sleet, frigid temperatures, high temperatures, heavy rain, hurricanes, high winds, and tornadoes are some examples of inclement weather events that may trigger Rectory's Inclement Weather Protocol. Most often, however, the protocol is initiated due to snow or icy road conditions. Connecticut can see snow anytime from November until April. Most of the snowfall is seen during the winter months – December, January, and February

Rectory's Protocol

We always endeavor to be open; however, weather can make for some difficult driving, and poor road conditions can impact the School's ability to safely operate. In these instances, Rectory may delay or cancel school as conditions warrant. These decisions are made independent of area school systems.

Delayed Opening and School Closing

With a delayed opening, the extra time in the morning—with outside doors in CARe, the ES, and the MS opening at 9:45 a.m. for a 10:00 a.m. start to the academic day—will make the roads safer for our teachers, families, and staff, and will allow some helpful time for snow removal and sidewalk preparation on campus. All delays or closings will be announced by 6:00 a.m.

Early Dismissal

There are times when the daily school schedule must be altered after the school day has begun. When the school administration decides to call an early dismissal, the same media that is used for delayed opening and School closing is used to notify parents, staff, and others of the decision. Every effort is made to make this call in a timely manner to allow for adjustments in schedules and arrangements for the safety of students and staff.

Safety First

Regardless of the School's determination, as conditions can vary dramatically within a small area, parents should always make the decision most appropriate to their situation and should always err on the side of caution.
