From Foundation to Future: Exploring Our School’s Archive

Every photo, letter, and keepsake holds a voice from our past — and here in the Rectory Archives, we let those voices speak.

The Rectory School Archives is more than a collection — it’s a living chronicle of our community. We gather, safeguard, and share the documents, artifacts, and stories that chart our journey from our founders’ earliest days to where we stand today. Whether you’re a student paging through old yearbooks, an alumnus wondering what life was like in years past, or a friend with a piece of Rectory history in your attic, we invite you to explore — and contribute to — our shared narrative.

Orton and Dr. Donald Durrell, were in their early stages of focusing attention on what was to become known as “specific language disability,” and today as dyslexia.

Frank, his wife, and their two children, Elizabeth and John, moved across the state from Lime Rock to Pomfret and into the rectory of Christ Church, the School’s original home. Over the ensuing years, three generations of the Bigelow family would play roles in Rectory’s history.
