The Rectory School is a private boy's junior boarding school and coed day school for 5th Ð9th graders founded in 1920 by the Rev. Frank H. Bigelow and his wife, Mabel. The Bigelows understood the long- term benefits of teaching children in small classes with individualized attention set in a caring atmosphere. The school is set in a home-like community on 135 picturesque acres in northeastern Connecticut.
The school offers middle-schoolers a combination of a traditional academic, athletic and fine arts program, innovative teaching methods and the award winning Individualized Instruction Program TM (IIPTM). The IIP is a unique one-to-one instruction program woven seamlessly into the school day. This approach successfully addresses individual learning styles, aptitudes and needs from remedial to gifted. Many junior boarding schools have modeled their tutoring programs after The Rectory School's IIP.
